Reason # 63: Terrorizing Children
Why do we need to defeat Donald Trump and ensure that a Democrat occupies the White House?
In the last post, we discussed Donald Trump’s cynical promise that he would build a 2,700-mile-long fence that would stop illegal immigration across the U.S. Mexican border and how, like all other Trump promises, never came true. Since the wall itself was unable to stop immigration, the Trump immigration resorted to terrorism. This is how it went down.
Imagine that you are a six-year-old child. Your parents have brought you thousands of miles from your home to the border. It is a pitch-dark night and you have followed a coyote, clutching your mother and father’s hands through rough terrain into the United States. Suddenly bright lights erupt around you. Your parents pull you along in an attempt to escape, but that is not to be. La Migra has caught you. On any previous night, you would have stayed with your parents and been deported back into Mexico. But it is now April 2018 and the Trump administration has adopted a cruel new policy. You are separated from your mommy and daddy and taken away to a facility where hundreds of other children are detained. You are, of course, confused, disoriented and terrified. Every day of your life has been dependent upon your parents and now they are gone. You cry all night and into the next day. You ask where mommy is and receive no answer. This goes on day after day, week after week, month after month, and in the case of more than one thousand children, year after year. How on earth can this have happened.

The policy change followed the appointment by Donald Trump of Thomas Homan with the stewardship of Trump senior policy administrator Stephen Miller, who announced the new “zero tolerance” policy. Initially, separations took place in secret “pilot” programs in Yuma and El Paso but expended to official national programs in 2018. Attorney General “Little” Jeff Sessions was responsible for its enforcement. A large percentage of Republican officials, senators and representatives either supported the policy or remained silent over this outrage.
International condemnation quickly drove Trump to abandon this cruel policy within a few months. Typically, Trump policy was not just brutal, it was also bungled. They had followed no system to track and reunite parents and children! In many cases, aid groups were able to reunite families – the Trump administration specifically would not provide assistance or funds to do so. But in more than a thousand instances, the parents had been deported and could not be found. The children were effectively orphaned. And the conditions under which they lived were deplorable. The effect of such brutal treatment of children as young as ten months old is of course psychologically devastating.
Where is Charles Dickens when you need him? Some children are still separated from their families.
Has Donald Trump repudiated the policy? Has he apologized or helped reunite families? Has he promised not to reinstitute zero tolerance if he is reelected? You know the answers. Nope, nah and not a chance.

Please do not vote for a kidnapper. This includes not just Donald Trump but all of those Republicans who aided and abetted this “state supported child abuse”.
Have a heart; use your mind, search your conscience, and vote for Democratic candidates – across the ballot – on November. 5th.
