Why have I committed to posting 100 Reasons NOT to vote for Donald Trump? Because I do not have enough time to post 10,000.

Why do we need to defeat Donald Trump and ensure that a Democrat occupies the White House?

When I was a child, lyrics from Stephen Foster’s refrain, including the lyric

“Then will all clouds of sorrow depart,

Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!”

Were still very popular. No longer.

Another Donald Trump presidency is a nightmare for “dreamers” in our society.

What is a dreamer?

The term describes a person who was brought to the United States as a child or teen and who remains undocumented after reaching adulthood. Recall from our last post, that the Trump administration took children as young as ten months old away from their parents after being seized at the border.

Many dreamers have spent most of their lives in the U.S.. They went to school here and speak perfect English. Their friends and family are here. They hold jobs and contribute to the economy.

They did not act illegally in crossing the border; they were brought by their parents. They bear no guilt. They have no connection to the countries where Trump wants to Deport them.

Because of these special considerations, President Barack Obama created an executive order protecting dreamers and Democrats crafted legislation to build a pathway to citizenship for dreamers, called ‘The Dream Act” or DACA.

The law would provide a temporary respite for dreamers, allowing them to get on with their lives without fear of deportation.

In 2017, Donald Trump sought to end DACA.

Pressed by ten Republican state attorney generals, Donald Trump rescinded DACA protection for most of the approximately seven hundred thousand dreamers now living in the U.S.. (Estimates of those eligible range upward of two million.)

Bernie Sanders called it “one of the ugliest and cruelest decisions ever made by a president.” (Remember, this was before Trump’s far uglier and crueler decision to separate immigrants from their children in April 2018.)

The Biden administration tried to protect dreamers with a “Parole in Place” program but a Texas court decision in 2023 again put dreamers at risk.

What plans does Donald Trump have for dreamers in 2025? He has not been specific, but he has released a draconian, militirized plan to revive “Operation Wetback”, to round up and deport undocumented immigrants back across the border into Mexico.

The nightmare continues.

Only you can end the continuing nightmare that is Trumpism, with your vote.

Have a heart; use your mind, search your conscience, and vote for Democratic candidates – across the ballot – on November. 5th.
