Reason # 69: COVID, Worse and Worse:
Why do we need to defeat Donald Trump and ensure that a Democrat occupies the White House?
It is hard to visualize how Trump’s management of the COVID pandemic could have gotten any worse, but if you have been paying attention to the first 68 Reasons NOT to vote for Donald Trump, you know that worse and worse is his standard operating procedure.
In July 2020, he falsely blamed testing on the huge numbers of COVID cases and suggested that we stop testing!
“Cases are going up in the U.S. because we are testing far more than any other country, and ever expanding,” Trump declared in an early morning June 23 tweet. “With smaller testing we would show fewer cases!”
A recipe for disaster.
On August 7, while COVID cases reached five million nationally, Trump held a public press conference where many were gathered without face masks at one of his golf courses, violating public health policies against both public gatherings and mask wearing. Many more large maskless rallies were to follow during election campaign season. Reelection was clearly more important to Donald than saving lives.
In September with cases above seven million and deaths exceeding 200,000 Trump continues to hold public rallies and wants to open college football to large audiences.
Donald Trump mocked Joseph Biden for wearing a mask to the debate.
“I don’t wear face masks like him,” Trump said of Biden. “Every time you see him he’s got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away … and he shows up with the biggest mask I’ve ever seen.”
Fate intervened, ironically. Two days later DJT was hospitalized with COVID. After hospital discharge, he showed that he had learned nothing, leaving to attend another large maskless rally in Florida.
Trump family members failed to wear masks during the presidential debates.
Donald Trump has many times suggested that he deserves the credit for development of COVID vaccines. This is not entirely true, although he did support a bipartisan “Operation Warp Speed” that funded research and modified regulations to facilitate deployment of vaccines.
The quest had been in place for decades. Medical research finally found a practical solution and the FDA gave emergency authorization to deploy two different RNA vaccines, from Pfizer and Moderna, in late 2020.
Now, for the first time, we had a real shot at controlling the pandemic and saving lives. How would Republican’s react?
We will examine how Trump and the Republican party reacted to vaccinations for COVID and other diseases tomorrow.
Have a heart; use your mind, search your conscience, and vote for Democratic candidates – across the ballot – on November. 5th.
