Reason # 100: Donald Trump is unfit for president and represents a clear and present danger to our democracy.
Why do we need to defeat Donald Trump and ensure that a Democrat occupies the White House?
By a few months ago, it had become apparent that our legal institutions had failed to bring Donald Trump to justice for his attempted coup d’etat against the United States. My wife and I have donated money to Democratic candidates, but do not have enough money to strongly influence the election. In the clear understanding that this awful man had a chance to again disrupt our democracy, I made a personal commitment to write one hundred daily reasons not to vote for Donald Trump before election day on November 5, 2024.
Today I have fulfilled this promise. It has been a lot of work, but I have learned a lot and hope to have provided useful information to voters. I believe that any single one of the 100 reasons posted should be sufficient to convince a reasonable person that Donald Trump is unfit to be president and represents a danger to our country. In this last reason, I will briefly recap what I have previously posted.
The Trump legacy is a sordid affair. His family wealth derives from brothel ownership, war profiteering, hucksterism and gambling. His Grandfather was a deserter and brothel owner; his father was arrested in a Ku Klux Klan brawl and was charged with discrimination and violation of civil rights of black Americans seeking to rent from him.
Donald Trump was a troubled youth, displaying symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder and oppositional defiant disorder.
He has been a boastful liar throughout his life, e.g. claiming to have been the best high school baseball player in N.Y. state. An independent review showed a limp batting average of .138. His boasts, cheating and lies about golf fill an entire book.
He was an indifferent student and is reported to have cheated to obtain admission to the University of Pennsylvania, by having another student take the SAT exam for him. He also lied, claiming that he was first in his class. He was never even close.
DJT was the quintessential privileged rich kid, starting in the family business at $1,000,000 per annum in his early 20s. His father recruited podiatrists to get Donald out of a military obligation, perhaps to Vietnam, by claiming painful bone spurs on his heels. Safe at home, Donald became “Jody” – the infamous guy who had sex with the girlfriends of those serving in military combat zones. He bragged that venereal disease was his “personal Viet Nam” to Howard Stern.
He showed signs of racism early, settling a federal accusation of racial discrimination in real estate and ranting for the death penalty for five youths of color, accused wrongfully of a brutal rape. The “exonerated five” filed suit last week because Trump persists in accusing them.
Trump has also denigrated Latins and -most recently – Haitians in a racist manner. He calls Mexicans immigrants rapists and yet hires them for his hotels and golf courses.
He also claims to be a brilliant businessman. This is also false boasting. In real life, Donald Trump managed to file bankruptcy six times and lost three giant Atlantic City casinos, along with a giant yacht, an airline and hotels. His casinos were fined many times, including for racial discrimination and allowing minors to gamble and drink.
He has been a lifelong dishonorable businessman, reneging on promises and contracts and stiffing customers, contractors, partners, investors and workers.
His reputation as a businessman in New York City was an open joke, only rescued by a fictional caricature of Donald Trump the tycoon, created by the writers of “The Apprentice” that created a new false persona. This is the Donald Trump seen by those in mid-America.
Trump has also been a serial dishonorable husband, cheating on all of his wives, on many occasions. His personal behavior extended to serial sexual abuse of women, exemplified by his “grab em by the pussy” live microphone quote and his enormous fine in a in a civil action loss to E. Jean Carroll.
His attempts to cover up sexual scandals have had international implications, with allegations that Russian intelligence services have videotaped “kompromat” that they might use to blackmail him into supporting Vladimir Putin.
A lying, cheating, boastful, bullying, sex abusive, peacock of a man was a terrible choice for president. How did he do?
As we have seen, he badly mismanaged the initial management of the COVID-19 pandemic, then went from bad to worse, undercutting the advice of the public health community and administration, plugging snake-oil nostrums, mocking mask-wearers and blocking mandated vaccination. The full-blown pandemic forced closure of schools and businesses, that ultimately required a massive financial subsidy and inflation, which he in typical fashion, blamed on others.
In foreign policy, he was caught red-handed attempting to extort our ally, the President of the Ukraine and destabilize the NATO military alliance. This led to the first of his, not one, but two historic impeachments.
His only tangible accomplishments were to bamboozle Republican voters into passing a giant tax cut that primarily benefited billionaires and second, promised to build a “beautiful” border wall that would be paid for by Mexico. Like the ultimate grifter that he is, he sold this foolishness to red-state rubes, who should have known better. All in all, it was a terrible, miserable, awful performance as president.
With this track record, of course he lost the presidential election in 2020. He immediately deployed Republican operatives in seven states to claim that there had been serious voting irregularities (courts proved these allegations were falsehoods) and conspiratorially drawing up fake sets of electors, including creation of forged documents. Many co-consoirators are now disbarred or in jail.
These false electoral votes were intended to block certification of the 2020 election by Vice-President Mike Pence. When Pence manned up and refused to cave in, plan B went into effect. Trump summoned his ultra-right-wing supporters to the Ellipse in Washington D.C. and incited them up to march on the U.S. Capitol to “stop the steal”. Although, tough guy that he is, Donald promised that he would go with them, he slunk back to watch the insurrection on television.
There ensued the most shameful day in the history of our republic, as QANON freaks, Proud Boys and Three-Percenters and other fascist militias broke through police lines and the Capitol itself to terrorize Senators and Congressmen, threaten to lynch VP Pence and forcing a delay in certification. When the House met separately, treasonous Republican legislators asked the House not to certify electoral votes in Pennsylvania and Arizona. They failed. Still today, Trump and hundreds of his legislative toadies persist in lying that the election was not legitimate.
His four years out of office were mostly spent planning restriction of voting in the states where he had narrowly lost in 2020 and defending himself against a series of criminal and civil proceedings. He was convicted of 34 felonies for business fraud, along with his two older sons as part of the porn-star coverup scheme, civil penalties for sexual assault and defamation of character against E. Jean Carroll. He still faces trials for election interference in Georgia, violation of state secret statutes in Florida and federal insurrection charges. He has only escaped to this point because of a timid Department of Justice and a Trump appointed Supreme Court.
Or course, these justices and Republican legislators have also expanded his public assault on women’s health and privacy by overturning Roe vs. Wade and facilitating state bans on abortion.
With this overwhelming evidence of incompetence, malfeasance, dishonesty and corruption, astonishingly, a flaccid, cowering body of Republican legislators, afraid of Trump’s ability to defeat them in primary races, kiss the ring, chant the mantras and support this vile man for president.
A small but important cross section of the Republican party, those who worked closely with him, represent the most glaring exception. His generals, his cabinet officials, his White House staff, his diplomats shout out in chorus that he is unqualified and a danger.
Finally, Donald Trump is old. Republicans railed against Joseph Biden, claiming that he was too old, frail and confused to serve as president, forcing him to remove himself from the campaign. Trump is now the oldest man to ever run for president and is exhibiting increasingly disturbing public behavior, suggesting doddering mental illness or dementia to mental health experts.
Taking all of this information into account, it should be clear to anyone, that Donald Trump has never been qualified, by character, integrity, intelligence, experience or accomplishment to effectively serve as President and Commander in Chief. His recent performances suggest serious inroads into cognitive function that make it even more dangerous to allow him to lead the most powerful state on earth a second time.
Please think carefully before voting for Donald Trump. The way to make America great again is to drive him from public life, dismantle the current suck-up Republican Senate and House and rebuild an America with two strong political parties, each of which vies to provide the best possible support for our nation and populace.
