Reason #10: Dignity
Why do we need to defeat Donald Trump and ensure that a Democrat occupies the White House?
Dignity is an essential quality, if one is to provide leadership. It implies that one behaves in a serious manner, in such a way as to deserve honor and respect and is absolutely mandatory in a public official. Last night, July 24, 2024, in his address from the oval office, Joseph Biden showed what dignity looks like; how a decent and honorable man behaves, even in one of the most painful moments in his life.
In contrast, all of Donald Trump’s behavior, public and private, exemplifies a crassness, incivility and buffoonery that is the antithesis of dignity. His conduct repels respect and honor. Watch the video clip of him cavorting with Jeffery Epstein again. Relisten to the lurid Access Hollywood audio clip. Think back to his behavior during his televised debate with Hillary Clinton, strolling around in the background like an unruly, disruptive teenager. Consider his bullying nicknames, denigrating any potential political opponent. Observe him at any of his rallies, wearing an expensive suit and ridiculous baseball cap, spewing venom, paranoia, hatred and spite.
Dignity is an essential quality in a leader. Clownish behavior is a critical detriment to success in domestic leadership, international diplomacy and military coalition building. Its absence has a negative impact, as potential allies in other nations shun such a leader. Lack of dignity is a fatal flaw in statesmanship.
As always, it is important to closely look at those standing behind Donald Trump while he behaves badly, slavishly nodding in acquiescence to his absurd falsehoods. Every woman and man in the Republican party who had the courage or the dignity to oppose Trump has long been driven out. Not one of today’s Republicans, at local, state or federal levels deserves your vote.
Have a heart; use your mind, ask your conscience and vote for Democratic candidates – across the ballot – on November. 5th.
