Reason # 89: Cowardly Lions
Why do we need to defeat Donald Trump and ensure that a Democrat occupies the White House?
During Donald Trump’s tenure in office, he was investigated by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. That must have been scary; now the rough and tough G-men were on the trail. What a disappointment! They showed as much backbone as snowmen in warm rain.
Two manly men, from central casting, were tasked with investigating Trump’s involvement with Russian intrusions into the 2016 presidential election. They assiduously collected copious evidence on Russian actions and interactions with Trump himself, members of the Trump campaign team, including chairman Paul Manafort, with Russian Presidents, spies, oligarchs and assorted malefactors, crooks and hackers, before and after the election. But Bob Mueller never seriously intended to prosecute or accuse the president of wrongdoing. His stance was that Trump was immune from prosecution for crimes, as president (much of the skullduggery occurred before the election, while he was still a private individual) led him to – astonishingly – refuse to charge him, on the grounds that “he would not have an opportunity to defend himself in court”. Weasel words if ever there were.

In the end, heroic Bob Mueller wrote a long report detailing the FBI’s findings, but did not assign any guilt to the President. The report was not released to congress, despite being mightily redacted by Trump loyalist Attorney General, Bill Barr, (who actually does look a bit like the gruff cowardly lion).

It is even suggested that Mueller participated in the redaction process himself.
For extra measure, tall, handsome bro James Comey waffled back and forth whether to inform the public whether Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton was being actively investigated in connection with mismanagement of classified material on a personal computer. Comey’s back and forth dithering public statements ensured that the personal computer scandal remained in the headlines as a negative factor in the waning days before the election.
As thanks for his loyal service, Comey was thrown under the bus by Rob Rosenstein and brutally fired by the President in an e-mail message.
If our children are to have role models exhibiting more exemplary portraits in bravery, the conduct and courage of Alvin Bragg, Fani Willis, Arthur Engoron, Jack Smith and, perhaps to a lesser degree, Judge Tanya Chutkan, can be extoled as more representative profiles in courage.

To this point, we have been dredging through the past, examining the slimy character and sordid behavior of Donald Trump over the decades. Tomorrow, we will start to look forward. What will he do if we, as a nation, are foolish enough to re-elect him?
